The Swedish automaker Saab has decided to publicly present its new generation of the 9-5 sedan. It turns out that the 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan was one of the biggest attractions at the 2009 edition of the Frankfurt Auto Show. The 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan has a longer wheelbase and a unique exterior and interior styling that was inspired from the Aero X concept car just as much as the Saab 900 classic. The 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan has the same platform as the Opel Insignia and Buick LaCrosse. The name of the platform is General Motors Epsilon 2. The 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan will have serious competition on the premium segment. Cars like the Audi A6 or the BMW 5-Series are currently some of the best sold in the premium segment, but the 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan wants to give them a good run for their money. For people who want to carry a lot of stuff around, the Swedish automaker is preparing the next generation Saab 9-5 Estate that will hit the market in about one year from now.
The 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan will get its power from a large choice of engines, including a 2.0 liter four cylinder turbo diesel that has an output of 160 horsepower, a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine that has an output of 220 horsepower and a top of the range 2.8 liter V6 turbocharged gasoline engine that has an output of 300 horsepower. It is important to mention that the 2.8 liter V6 turbocharged engine will be offered exclusively with Saab`s XWD four wheel drive system.
Just a couple of months after the Saab 9-5 sedan will hit the market, the Swedish automaker is planning to enlarge the range of engines with a 2.0 liter BioPower engine, a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine that will have an output of 180 horsepower. Thus, the range of available engines will be up to no less than five in just a couple of months after the launch.
The Saab 9-5 sedan will be offered with two different suspension layouts depending on the power of the chosen engine and with an optional choice for the potential buyers of a sport chassis setting. Other impressive technological equipment available on the new generation Saab 9-5 sedan include intelligent cruise control, Saab`s DriveSense, and Bi-Xenon Smart Beam adaptive headlights.
