Ferrari works on 458 Italia Spider

Luca di Montezemolo - Italian maker's chairman at Ferrari said the firm will make a Spider variant of the newly debuted 458 Italia. According to the rumors this will be in 2 years (in the case of F430, the Spider variant appeared 1 year after its closed top).

'The 458 will follow in the footsteps of the 430 Scuderia and will be the first car to have all the controls mounted on the steering wheel. The price list will be 197,000 Euro and deliveries will begin in the second half of January. We are also considering a Spider version, but no sooner than several years' he said, quoted.

458 Italia debuted in Frankfurt at the Auto Show 2009. Di Montezemolo called it the supersportiva; it runs with a direct injection V8 4.5l engine matched with the flat-plane traditional crankshaft.

Its engine produces 570 horsepower - 9,000 rpm plus torque of 540 Nm - 6,000 rpm, paired with a dual-clutch 7-speed transmission. It makes 60 in only 3.4 seconds, accelerating until it hits 325 km/h (200 mph).

The maker affirmed when the vehicle got revealed 'The 458 Italia is designed to fulfill the expectations and ambitions of our most passionate clients, the 458 Italia continues the Ferrari tradition of putting the thrill into driving as a result of track-derived technological innovations'.
