Nissan expects 20,000 Leaf preorders

Clients that want to preorder the electric vehicle Nissan Leaf can submit the applications next spring; the parent firm's representatives said they have initial estimates of 20,000 pre-sold models, before the American official debut.

'We are confident we will have 20,000 reservations for the Leaf by the time it goes on sale' Carlos Tavares, chairman at the Americas for Nissan, affirmed Tuesday autoweek.com reported.

The builder from Japan already has invested 2 billion Dollars in the Smyrna, Tenn. factory to make 150,000 Leaf units and 200,000 batteries with li-ion beginning in 2012.

He affirmed 'Tennessee will be a critical place with the largest electrical recharging infrastructure anywhere' .

Leaf – an electric medium-size hatchback, running with laminated compact batteries of lithium-ion, produce 90 kW; its electric motors makes torque of 80 kW/280 Nm. The auto, that provides quite enough space for 5 passengers, covers a top distance of 100 miles per charge (60 km).
