The Japanese automaker Subaru seems to be thinking green ahead of the start of the 2009 edition of the Tokyo Auto Show. Not only that they are thinking green, but they are thinking extremely futuristic, too. Subaru decided to preview their latest concept called Hybrid Tourer ahead of the Tokyo Auto Show. The Subaru Hybrid Tourer concept at a first look seems to be extremely futuristic. The rear end of the Subaru Hybrid Tourer concept seems quite obviously inspired from the rear end of one of the sexiest cars on the market, the Alfa Romeo Brera . Subaru intends to equip the Hybrid Tourer with the company`s first hybrid powertrain that consists of a high performance lithium ion battery, two electric engines (one at each axle), a 2.0 liter horizontally opposed direct fuel injection turbo gasoline engine a S-AWD system (Symetrical All Wheel Drive).
The electric engine located on the front axle has an output of 13 horsepower. The Japanese automaker has stated that this electric engine has the role to provide additional power for hill climbing while being normally used as a power generator to recharge the lithium ion battery. The electric engine located on the rear axle has an output of 27 horsepower. The rear axle located electric engine has the role of offering additional power to the gasoline engine while being able to startup the vehicle and even move it (at extremely low speeds though) on its own, without any help from the petrol engine. Talking about the devil, the 2.0 liter gasoline engine will be coupled to a new generation Lineatronic CVT transmission (continuously variable transmission).
Other very interesting features of the Subaru Hybrid Tourer concept include a new driving assist system that used, and I quote, ``stereo camera technology`` in order to detect objects of any type that are in the projected pathway of the car and advises the driver what to do in every situation. This very interesting system is called EyeSight +.
