Daihatsu e:S concept previewed ahead of Tokyo

The 41st edition of the Tokyo Auto Show will be the host of a lot of debuts of interesting concepts. One good example is the Daihatsu e:S concept. The Japanese automaker has stated that the Daihatsu e:S is just a design study. They also said that despite the ultra compact exterior dimensions, the Daihatsu e:S can fit four adult passengers. The Daihatsu e:S is based on a shortened platform of one of Daiahatsu`s current models. The Daihatsu e:S actually looks almost production ready. The Daihatsu e:S has a wheelbase of 2175 millimeters and a length of 3100 millimeters.

According to the Japanese automaker, the Daihatsu e:S has a total weight of 1545 pounds or 700 kilograms. This extremely low weight is possible thanks to the replacement of many materials with lighter versions and the use of slim, lightweight seats.

The Daihatsu e:S gets its power from a normal gasoline engine that has a combustion control system which was developed by the Japanese automaker. A start/stop system is also included for the Daihatsu e:S.

Some people might say that this is just the Toyota iQ of Daihatsu. Other people might say that this car will be just as popular as the Chevrolet Aveo is at the moment. To be honest, we can not help seeing how practical this little car seems to be. If this car will make it to production form and especially if Daihatsu will manage to price it right, it can be a huge success for people who have basic transportation needs. This car looks clean, functional, efficient and hopefully inexpensive. If the Japanese automaker will play their cards right, the Daihatsu e:S (or whatever it will be named in production form) can become a huge success.
