Toyota has a temporary remedy regarding the floor mat - zip ties usage

Toyota told its dealerships in North America to attach the side floor mats of the driver to metal seat rails having wire ties - self-locking, known as the zip ties, the carmaker calls this a fix - 'semi-permanent'.

The automaker in Japan recalled over 3.8 million cars because of a floor mat wedging itself right against a gas pedal - located on a Lexus ES 350 model, killing 4 on a gruesome wreck.

Brian Lyons – Toyota spokesman told Automotive News 'We have reviewed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration what we’re calling a semi-permanent floor mat installation process, and we’re providing these instructions to our dealers'.

'This allows dealers to continue selling and delivering both new and used vehicle'.

The dealers there, are instructed for attaching a label of warning to the mats drivers to not stack 2 floor mats at a time, on top - each other.
