The fanatics of Formula Ford will have a reason more of celebrating in 2010, as the builder from America decided on reviving the popular engine block Kent. The new Kent's engineering work has begun already; Ford is expecting this engine to be available on market in the upcoming year.
Andy Slankard, the Racing Engineering Ford supervisor stated for the press 'Our parts division has many years of expertise in re-making blocks. And we are going to take our knowledge of modern techniques to remanufacture the 'Kent' block and improve its durability. Our aim is not to make performance gains but to strengthen it and to make the unit more reliable'.
Ford is making also, besides Kent, a 1.6l, 110 PS variant of Duratec, that will be found for Formula Ford vehicles beginning the end of present year. This new engine model will cost about £5,000, fitted on any auto, like a replacement for 1.8l Zetec or 1.6l Kent engines.
Mike Norton, the manager of Ford Europe Motorsport affirmed 'The new power unit will be ideal for fitment in new chassis; it will be a stepping stone to the more powerful Duratec engines used in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain and other series worldwide. The engine will be made available throughout world, from the US to Europe, Australia to Africa'.
Formula Ford is now in its season no.43, competing in a few states from Europe, South and North America. These series were a starting point there or a pit stop, waiting, on the way to F1 for Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna and present Formula One front-runner, Jenson Button.
