Most economical Volkswagen Golf ever launched

After publicly presenting the most economical Volkswagen Golf in history during the 2009 edition of the Frankfurt Auto Show that took place just one month ago, the German automaker did not waste any time and now the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion has hit the German market. The Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion gets its power from a 1.6 liter TDI common rail engine that is capable of developing 105 horsepower. The drivetrain of the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion is completed by a long ratio five speed manual gearbox and a front wheel drive system. The basic price tag for the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion is of 21.650 euros. At the Frankfurt Auto Show the German automaker presented two completely opposed versions of the Volkswagen Golf. At one hand we have the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion, the most economical Volkswagen Golf in history and on the other hand we have the Volkswagen Golf R, one of the fastest Volkswagen Golf models in history, which comes with an all wheel drive system and an engine capable of developing 270 horsepower.

But now let us return to the subject of this article, the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion. Some of the most important features of the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion include lightweight alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tires, a braking energy recovery function and a start/stop system.

Thanks to all of these features, the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion is the most economical Golf in history, managing a level of 99 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide emissions and an average fuel consumption of 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers or the equivalent of 61.9 mpg US or 74.3 mpg UK. I think that this car will be extremely successful in Europe, in these hard times that are affected by the economical crisis. People will make an effort to buy a car like these but most of them are not able to pay the gas for cars that average over 10 liters per 100 kilometers. If the performance numbers are true, then this Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion might end up being the best sold Volkswagen model in the range.
