Nissan president and CEO confirms plans for all electric Infiniti model

Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Company was obviously present at the 2009 edition of the Tokyo Auto Show, which was the 41st edition in history. Carlos Ghosn did not waste any time and told the members of the press that the luxury brand of the Japanese group, Infiniti, has in plan to launch a completely electric battery powered car soon. He offered no details regarding the Infiniti electric vehicle. It is quite possible that the mystery electric vehicle could be based on the on the Nissan LEAF . Carlos Ghosn has stated that the concept is to create ``a stylist, compact, high performance four seat luxury Infiniti with zero emissions``. Hmm, now you have all seen the Nissan Leaf , can you really imagine it as being a stylish, compact, high performance luxury vehicle? It is not stylist, it does not have high performances and it is not a luxury vehicle. The only thing that matches is the compact part.

I am guessing that we will just have to wait and see what can the guys working for Nissan do. Still, I am quite confident in their ability to create a car that at least partly can live up to the expectations. The Nissan LEAF for example could be a great example of what the Japanese automakers can do and what North American automakers can not. We all know that the Chevrolet Volt has been making the media rounds for the last two years or so, but we will not be seeing it for other one or two years. The Nissan Leaf on the other hand can start being ordered in the USA, as the first customers will be getting their cars in the spring of the next year. It is clearly that Nissan can work fast and create cars, but the concepts and production ready vehicles they make are not necessarily some of the best. Remember the Nissan Land Glider ? Well, let us just hope that the Infiniti electric car will be nothing like the Nissan Land Glider.
