The Toyota FT-86 was one of the centers of attention at the 2009 edition of the Tokyo Auto Show. Obviously, it could not compete with the 375.000 dollars Lexus LFA, but on the other hand the Lexus LFA can not compete with the Toyota FT-86 when it comes down to the price/performance ratio. Anyway, what we have here is a video and a huge photo gallery showing images of the Toyota FT-86 live from Tokyo.
As you all know, the Toyota FT-86 has a co-developed with Subaru platform, so we will get to see a Subaru version of the Toyota FT-86 soon. The Toyota FT-86 sports coupe has a length of 4160 millimeters and gets its power from a 2.0 liter boxer engine made by Subaru that is placed in the front of the car. Toyota did not give any official information regarding the output of the 2.0 liter naturally aspirated Subaru engine, but it is rumored as being around 200 horsepower. The drivetrain of the Toyota FT-86 is completed by a six speed manual gearbox and a rear wheel drive system. According to Toyota, the FT-86 will be able to accommodate up to four passengers.
According to an earlier statement from Tetsuya Tada, Toyota chief engineer, we will get to see the Toyota FT-86 for sale for a base price of around 20.000 dollars, which would be just great. It seems that the Toyota FT-86 will start being produced towards the end of 2011, so potential buyers still have a lot of waiting ahead of them.
