Toyota has been ever-present at the 41st edition of the Tokyo Auto Show. They have been launching a lot of models, wanting to show that at the most important Asian auto event of the year, they are the most important Asian automaker and no one can defeat their strong market position anytime soon. Toyota, Lexus and Daihatsu alike launched a lot of concept and production ready models at the 2009 edition of the Auto Show.
What we have here is another car that was presented during the 2009 edition of the Tokyo Auto Show. I am talking about the all new Toyota Sai hybrid sedan. Practically, the Toyota Sai hybrid sedan is a more affordable and cosmetically reworked version of the recently launched Lexus HS 250h with most styling changes concerning the front and rear ends of the car as well as the revised dashboard. This is the second dedicated hybrid model of the Japanese automaker, after the Toyota Prius and is the first sedan hybrid of the Toyota brand. The Toyota Sai hybrid made its world debut at Tokyo, never being showed in public before.
The Toyota Sai hybrid sedan has an average fuel consumption of 4.3 liters per 100 kilometers which is the equivalent of 54.1 mpg US. The low fuel consumption is possible thanks to the combination of an electric motor with a battery pack and a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine that have a combined output of 190 horsepower.
The Lexus HS 250h has a starting price of 3.960.000 Yen or the equivalent of 43.500 dollars while the Toyota Sai hybrid will have a base price of 3.380.000 million Yen or the equivalent of 37.200 dollars. The Toyota Sai hybrid will hit the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) at the beginning of December this year, so before the end of 2009.
