The future of automobiles is clearly green. More and more fuel efficient cars are launched every couple of months. This time we are talking about the Opel Corsa ecoFLEX (Vauxhall for Great Britain) that was revealed today by the GM subsidiary. The new Opel Corsa ecoFLEX gets its power from a 1.3 liter CDTi diesel unit with a variable geometry turbo, being able to develop 28% more power in comparison to the current Opel Corsa ecoFLEX which gets only 75 ponies. If you don`t like math, let me do it for you. The 1.3 liter CDTi has an output of 95 horsepower.
Normally, every power increase means higher fuel consumption. This is not the case here. The new Opel Corsa ecoFLEX has lower fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by about 10%. More precisely, the new Opel Corsa ecoFLEX has a level of 98 grams of carbon dioxide emissions for the three door version and 99 grams per kilometer for the five door version. In terms of fuel consumption, the new Opel Corsa ecoFLEX stands very impressive at 3.7 liters per 100 kilometers or the equivalent of 63.3 mpg US or 76.3 mpg UK.
The lower fuel consumption is able thanks to some interesting features, including lighter 14 inch wheels with newly designed and more efficient wheel caps along with the new 175/70 tires that are roll resistance optimized. Also, the aerodynamics of the new Opel Corsa ecoFlex has improved by lowering it by 20 millimeters and optimizing the air flows via the air intakes.
This car is eco biased, so do not expect too much performance. Anyway, we will mention the performance figures for those interested. The Opel Corsa ecoFLEX manages to reach a maximum speed of 177 km/h while being able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds. The 1.3 liter CDTi diesel engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission with a longer gear ratio.
