BMW wants to bring 4-cylinder diesels to America

The recession brought many new things in the US, and at the moment it seems it will highlight one more. Inside Line states the plans of BMW are to bring in the 4-cylinder diesels right to the market in America, improving their cars’ economy of fuel.

The 535d's engine is great, everybody appreciates it, but BMW wants to offer its clients the same performance on a wrap that's smaller, having lower consumption of fuel.

Baloga said 'This engine needs to match the acoustic qualities of a 6-cylinder and it needs to match the performance, as well as performing better in terms of fuel economy and emissions. The target is to produce enough horsepower to be comparable [in performance] to our N54/N55 six-cylinder turbos' Tom Baloga, Vice President of Engineering for BMW of North America, affirmed, BMWblog quoted.

So, the upcoming 4-cylinder diesel units will be outrunning the 6-cylinder ones that are now available. These all-new engines will be introduced on the SUV line.

The info has never been confirmed officially but, Inside Line posted this on their site: 'The Inside Line article never explicitly mentions turbos, but does say, 'Our four-cylinder diesel will be so good that people will readily accept it as a replacement for six-cylinders. The target is to produce enough horsepower to be comparable [in performance] to our N54/N55 six-cylinder turbos'.
