Nissan - automaker from Japan is expecting, in the present fiscal year, a profitability return, ending on 31 of March, wanting to take advantage fully of the growth in China, improving its figures next year. Carlos Ghosn – the CEO told Reuters Renault is about to introduce a few units in China also, but hasn't said much about it.
Ghosn said, quoted by that aforementioned source 'Our results are improving. Hopefully the momentum will continue into 2010. The focus of the alliance now is making sure Nissan develops its presence as fast as possible. Renault will be joining when it is ready in the future'.
Nissan wants also to debut electric vehicles in China, having the Leaf model as the first on one whole series to be brought by the alliance Renault-Nissan. The car will be arriving in 2011 in China and will be locally made by Dongfeng Nissan.
Carlos Ghosn - Nissan CEO and President said at the beginning of August when the auto got revealed 'Nissan LEAF is a tremendous accomplishment – one in which all Nissan employees can take great pride. We have been working tirelessly to make this day a reality – the unveiling of a real-world car that has zero – not simply reduced – emissions. It’s the first step in what is sure to be an exciting journey – for people all over the world, for Nissan and for the industry'.
Product Chief Designer - Masato Inoue affirmed 'Our car had to be the world’s first, medium-size, practical EV that motorists could afford and would want to use every day. And that’s what we’ve created. The styling will identify not only Nissan LEAF but also the owner as a participant in the new era of zero-emission mobility'.
Nissan will be selling at first imported Leaf models on the Chinese territory and, if the vehicle becomes popular, it will be shifting the production right to Dongfeng Nissan.
