The Plymouth Road Runner was a legendary muscle car built by Plymouth, which was a division of Chrysler. The Plymouth Road Runner was produced between 1968 and 1980. Still, the peak of popularity of the Plymouth Road Runner was represented by the second generation of the muscle, which was produced between 1971 and 1975. About one year ago a couple of conceptual designs for a modern successor of the second generation Plymouth Road Runner appeared online. Those conceptual designs were nothing more than a vision of what the car would look like. The conceptual designs of a modern successor for the second generation Plymouth Road Runner were realized by Michael Leonhard and were featured in the August/September issue of the Mopar Enthusiast magazine.
Now, mister Michael Leonhard put the design up for auction on eBay with the intention to build a one of a kind model that would be presented and delivered to its owner at the 2010 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show, if everything goes well. Practically, the conceptual design would be a modified 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 that takes styling cues from the second generation Plymouth Road Runner. We have to admit that in the computer generated images, the proposal of mister Michael Leonhard looks quite good.
The modern Plymouth Road Runner would also feature the dashboard and console of the 2009 Dodge Challenger , a modified interior with new seat covers, headliner and rear quarter trim as well as door trims.
The one of a king 2010 Plymouth Road Runner would be able to do a quarter mile sprint in 11.9 seconds while being able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. This performance will be able thanks to a powerful turbocharged HEMI 6.1 liter V8 engine capable of developing 620 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.
As you would have guessed, a one of a kind car does not come cheap. The eBay ``Buyt it Now`` price is of 950.000 US dollars for the one who wants to get his hands on this one of a kind car. Mister Leonhard has not revealed the name of the company that will handle the build of the car, but he says about it that ``the world leading and renowned company specializing in coach building and concept car manufacturing``.
