Renault has revealed that they have in plan to revive the legendary Gordini nametag. The Gordini nametag will be used for more premium and chic versions of the hot hatches developed by Renault that will get specific cosmetic and equipment upgrades but without any kind of mechanical tweaks. Thus, the RenaultSport nametag will not be affected in any way by the revival of the Gordini nametag. Up to a certain point, this decision is similar to the decision taken by Citroen to revive the DS nametag.
Still, the revival of the legendary Gordini nametag will not be a perfect revival, as in the past the French automaker developed a Renault 8 Gordini rally car in the middle of the 1960s which was the base for a later 1300cc version for the Gordini Cup racing series. As you can see, in the mid 1960s Renault developed a rally car under the Gordini nametag and even had a Gordini racing series so the decision to revive the Gordini nametag exclusively for hot hatchbacks that do not get any performance improvements but only specific cosmetic and equipment upgrades is at least weird.
The Renault Twingo Gordini RS (RenaultSport) that will be based on the Renault Twingo RS 133 will be the first product of the Gordini brand. The Renault Twingo Gordini RS will be unveiled at the 25th of November at the L`Atelier Renault located on Champs Elysees in Paris, France. The Renault Twingo Gordini RS will hit the market in the spring of 2010.
The Gordini lineup of models will be completed by similar models that will be based on the Renault Megane RS 250 and the Renault Clio RS 200. It is expected that the Gordini lineup to feature the traditional light blue exterior finish with twin white racing stripes, even if Renault did not disclose any specific official details.
