19th of November 2009 Today, the new car development and research center was inaugurated - Honda R&D Asia Pacific, strengthening the presence of Honda in the Oceania and Asia areas. It's situated on the Kanchanapisek Road, the East part. This plant was designed for stimulating the Thai plus all the regional car industry.
The Center activities will include styling research, vehicle testing, engineering development and product planning. It's the 4th Automobile R&D Honda Center outside the Japanese territory, following the America, Europe and the Chinese area.
Fumihiko Ike, Chief Executive Officer and Asian Honda Motor's President said 'Today’s opening of Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. represents an important step in Honda’s history and commitment to Thailand, which has become one of our core operation bases for motorcycles, automobiles and power products'.
The official release stated the firm produces at the moment 3.3 million Hondas every year, exporting to over 80 states worldwide.
Ike added 'Honda, as a frontrunner in the environmental area in Thailand, is working to develop a variety of fuel-efficient vehicles including one for the Eco-car project that was initiated by the Thai government. We are now developing a new small car that meets Eco-car requirements and making every effort to introduce it in the near future. With today’s opening of HRAP, Honda will further accelerate the development of this Eco-car'.
The Minister of Industry - Chanchai Chairungruang continued 'Today’s opening of its automobile research and development center represents Honda’s commitment as a private sector company to support the government’s policy to further develop Thailand’s automotive industry.
