25th of November 2009 Well this is something funny. About 800 children aged between 5 and 13 years old built a full size replica of a BMW X1 with a little help from the staff of the Bavarian automaker. The 800 kids were visiting the BMW Welt in Munich and got invited by BMW to participate at a fun project of building a full size replica of the BMW X1 using only LEGO colored bricks. Actually, 165.000 LEGO bricks were needed to complete the master piece of the 800 children. The building of the LEGO BMW X1 took four days and the chosen exterior color was yellow.
This was actually a humanitarian event organized by BMW, as for every LEGO block that was used, the German automaker donated a specific amount of money to the ``Die Arche``, which is a children foundation located in Munich. On the 25th of November, at the BMW Welt Plaza, the finished BMW X1 replica made out of LEGO bricks will go on display for the public, being exhibited next to real working vehicles.
This is a very nice thing to do by BMW, a humanitarian event that involves fun for some children too as well as helping unlucky children in a foundation. Still, the theme could have been something that could not have given the opportunity to make jokes about. Some people might say that the LEGO built BMW X1 replica actually looks a lot better than the real life vehicle and that BMW should take some pointers from the children, but those people are just mean, obviously. Anyway, well done to BMW for being involved in humanitarian projects that help out children. We hope to see more of the same from BMW and other automakers too.
