The United States of America is a big country and as every big country a whole lot of police cars are needed to maintain public order and fight crime. Currently, the police version Ford Crown Victoria is the most popular crime fighting car in the USA, being sold in about 45.000 units every year. Still, the police Ford Crown Victoria is getting a little old, so some time ago General Motors presented a police version of the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice in an attempt to get a piece of the police car market. Still, Ford was not going to go down without a fight. Thus, Ford has announced that they will introduce an all new purpose built Police Interceptor specially designed and engineered to replace the current Ford Crown Victoria law enforcement lineup from 2011. This should be interesting.
According to Ford , the new Police Interceptor is being developed in conjunction with Ford`s Police Advisory Board, which provided input during the past 14 months on key vehicle attributes, like comfort, safety, driver convenience, performance and durability. Still, no official pictures of the Ford Police Interceptor have been revealed (the photos below are computer generated images made by an artist some time ago). Also, Ford has not announced on what model the Ford Police Interceptor will be based on.
Mark Fields, Ford North America president, has stated that ``We have heard the repeated requests from the law enforcement community to continue uninterrupted support of the law enforcement community``. He continued by saying that ``Ford is answering the call with the new Police Interceptor – engineered and built in America``.
According to the North American automaker, we will get to see photos and full specs of the Ford Police interceptor in the beginning of the next year.
