South Korea was the official launching place for the all new Kia Cadenza sedan. The Kia Cadenza sedan has been designed under the guidance of mister Peter Schreyer, the former design chief of Audi. The Kia Cadenza sedan is practically the production version of the Kia KND-5 concept model that made its appearance in Seoul earlier in 2009. The Kia Cadenza sedan is expected to compete against other premium sedan models like the BMW 5-Series , the Audi A6 or the Mercedes E-Class. The Kia Cadenza sedan is replacing the ``veteran`` model Kia Opirus, also known as the Kia Amanti in certain markets.
Peter Schreyer has stated that ``Our new sedan looks masculine and luxurious``. He continued by saying that ``Today, people recognize a Kia at first sight: well balanced proportions, flowing greenhouse and dynamic window graphic plus the big wheels, give the car its confident stance, dignity and elegant personality. The distinctive tiger nose front with its signature grille and headlights are evidence of Kia`s new self confidence. Kia Cadenza is a big step into the future – another quantum leap for Kia``.
The interior of the new Kia Cadenza sedan features an equally clean and contemporary design. Some of the most important features include a reversing safety camera with interior mirror display screen and a powered extension for the driver`s seat cushion, a mood lighting strip that runs across the two tier dashboard and all around the door trims, reversing sensors, keyless entry as well as an engine start button.
The Kia Cadenza sedan has a length of 4965 millimeters, being shorter than the Kia Opirus / Kia Amanti . Still, the wheelbase is extended with 45 millimeters up to 2845 millimeters. As a result to the longer wheelbase, the more compact rear suspension and additional exterior width, passengers have more space in comparison to the Kia Amanti / Kia Opirus.
Moving on to the technical details, the Kia Cadenza sedan is lighter by 130 kilograms (287 pounds) when compared to the Kia Amanti / Kia Opirus. The fact that the new sedan is lighter is possible thanks to lighter yet stronger body shell along with the all new suspension system. The Kia Cadenza sedan gets a new front wheel drive system named Type-N that will be used on other future models of the South Korean automaker.
The Kia Cadenza sedan gets its power from a range of three gasoline units, including a new 2.4 liter four cylinder direct injection gasoline engine capable of developing 201 horsepower as well as a 3.5 liter V6 engine capable of developing 295 horsepower. The powertrain for all the Kia Cadenza models will be finished by a new six speed automatic transmission and a front wheel drive system.
The Chinese market debut of the Kia Cadenza sedan will take place in June 2010. Potential buyers from other important markets, including the African market, the Central and South American market, the Middle East market, the Caribbean market, the Pacific market and the Asian market (excluding China) will be able to purchase the new Kia Cadenza sedan starting from March 2010. The most important markets, which are the European market and the North American market, will get the new Kia Cadenza sedan starting from January 2010. The world debut of the 2011 Kia Cadenza sedan will take place at the Riyadh Motor Show in Saudi Arabia next month on the 12th of December.
