Los Angeles Auto Show debut for 2011 Mazda 2

Mazda has been ignoring the North American market for some time now. In the current conditions of economic crisis, it seems that every market is a viable market if profit can be made. Thus, Mazda has launched the 2011 Mazda 2 during the 2009 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2011 Mazda 2 is practically a North American market version of the current generation Mazda 2 that has been launched about two years ago in Australia, Japan and Europe.

The North American version Mazda 2 gets slightly different tail lamps, a reprofiled front bumper that now houses Mazda`s trademark smiley lower grille. The North American market Mazda 2 uses the same platform as the 2011 Ford Fiesta that also made its world debut during the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The 2011 Mazda 2 will be offered on the North American market with a 1.5 liter four cylinder engine and a front wheel drive.

Pricing and further details will be offered at a later date, as the 2011 Mazda 2 will hit the North American market sometime in August next year, most probably.

The Mazda 2 will have serious competition, including cars like the Ford Fiesta, the Honda Fit, the Chevrolet Aveo or the Toyota Yaris. It will be interesting to see how well will the Mazda 2 be received by the North American market in times of economical crisis.
