16th of December 2009 Craig Bierly, product marketing director of Buick, has presented a teaser sketch of the next Buick model, a premium compact sedan. The sketch was presented during the Los Angeles Auto Show press conference held by Buick for the unveiling of the Opel Insignia based 2011 Buick Regal sedan.
Craig Bierly has stated that ``And now, I have more exciting news to share with you; the first public showing of a rendering that includes our entire future sedan portfolio``. He continued by saying that ``In addition to the new Regal, which you can see on your right, you see our LaCrosse in the center and at the far left, an all new premium compact sedan with the styling and craftsmanship of Enclave and LaCrosse plus the European inspired driving dynamics of the Buick Regal – and at a price that will make this Buick our new entry point to the brand``. Craig Bierly, the product marketing director of Buick, concluded that ``Is Buick`s transformation complete? No… but we believe we are making steady progress``.
A couple of months ago we presented you spy photos of a Buick compact sedan that was doing some testing in Germany, but at that time it was not clear whether General Motors was developing the car exclusively for China or also for the North American market. Like the 2011 Buick Excelle hatchback, destined for the Chinese market, the new Buick four door compact sedan will most likely be based on the new Opel Astra sedan, which shares the same platform with the Chevrolet Cruze.
It is still to early to be sure, but rumors claim that the new Buick compact sedan will get its power from a choice of engines, including a 1.6 liter turbo engine capable of developing 180 horsepower as well as a 1.4 liter four cylinder turbocharged engine.
