BAIC wants 4 new units inspired from Saab technology

BAIC bought recently a few assets from Saab, so the Chinese maker wants now to develop 4 brand new units and 3 turbo-engines inspired from the bought technology. GM announced in the middle of December it decided on selling a few Saab 9-3, present 9-5 plus powertrain tooling and technology to BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd).

The builder from China was 1 of the the interested people to take charge in Saab, together only with Koenigsegg Group.

Jan Åke Jonsson, Saab Automobile's Managing Director, said then 'This arrangement is excellent for both parties, now and for the future. We have developed a good relationship with BAIC and look forward to working with them to integrate this Saab technology into their future vehicles'.

The future of Saab is at risk still as GM will shut the firm in January next year. The Swedish model might still live... as Spyker, 1 of the interested persons, submitted just now an upgraded bid. General Motors will still think about offer, having a last decision made right before the deadline - December 31.

Victor R. Muller - Spyker CEO stated for the press 'We have made every effort to resolve the issues that were preventing the conclusion of this matter and we have asked GM and all other involved parties to seriously consider this offer. We are very confident that our renewed offer will remove the impasse that was standing in the way of an agreement on Friday, and this would still allow us to conclude the deal prior to the expiry of the deadline originally set by GM of December 31st' affirmed Muller.
