We previously told you (and showed you) about the media event held by Infiniti at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. At the event that took place in Beverly Hills, the Japanese automaker presented the new 2011 Infiniti M and the revised 2010 Infiniti G. Now, Infiniti decided to offer a large photo gallery and official details regarding the 2011 Infiniti M37 and the 2011 Infiniti M56. The 2011 Infiniti M will be a serious contender for models like the Mercedes Benz E-Class, the BMW 5-Series or the Lexus GS. The 2011 Infiniti M will be offered initially with a choice of two gasoline engines while a hybrid version will come soon after. The Infiniti M is sold in Japan under the name Nissan Fuga.
The top of the range Infiniti M56 gets its power from a new 5.6 liter aluminum alloy V8 engine capable of developing 420 horsepower and 564 Nm of torque. When compared to the previous 4.5 liter V8 engine that was available on the former Infiniti M model, the new engine is more powerful by 110 Nm of torque and 95 horsepower.
The entry level Infiniti M 37 gets its power from a 3.7 liter aluminum alloy V6 engine capable of developing 330 horsepower at 7000 revs per minute and 365 Nm of torque at 5200 revs per minute. In comparison to the older 3.5 liter V6 engine, the new Infiniti M37 engine is more powerful by 11 Nm of torque and 27 horsepower.
Both the Infiniti M 56 and Infiniti M37 are available with a choice of either an all wheel drive system or a rear wheel drive system. For the buyers looking for a perfect handling, Infiniti will be offering a Sport Package on the rear wheel drive version that includes 20 inch wheels and tires, four wheel Active Steer (4WAS), sport brakes as well as a sport tuned suspension. The models equipped with a rear wheel drive system and the Sport Package will also get solid magnesium paddle shifters as standard.
All the 2011 Infiniti M models will get as standard Adaptive Shift Control (ASC), a seven speed automatic transmission as well as Downshift Rev Matching.
A single electric motor / twin clutch arrangement with the first clutch installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5 liter V6 engine and the electric motor has been announced as part of a gasoline electric hybrid version of the 2011 Infiniti M sedan.
The new Infiniti M is taller by 0.4 inches (59.1 inches versus 58.7 inches) than the previous generation Infiniti M sedan, wider by 2.0 inches (72.6 inches versus 70.6 inches) and longer by 0.6 inches (194.7 inches versus 194.1 inches). Still, the wheelbase is similar in size, having 114.2 inches.
Some of the most important features of the new Infiniti M include Double piston Shock Absorbers that control damping force according to frequency of input from the road surface, the Blind Spot Intervention (BSI) that helps the driver return the vehicle back toward the center of the lane as well as Active Trace Control, which adjusts engine torque and the control of braking at each of the four wheels to help enhance cornering performance.
The new Infiniti M35 hybrid will hit the North American market in the second quarter of 2011, while the Infiniti M37 and M56 (rear wheel drive and all wheel drive) will hit the US market in the spring of the next year.
