Spy photos of 2011 Porsche Cayenne hit the web

The second generation Porsche Cayenne is quickly approaching production ready state as we can see in a new set of spy photos. It seems that the next generation Porsche Cayenne will feature a smoother design language and more dynamic proportions thanks to the steeper angle of the rear tailgate, the lowered roofline and the smaller rear window. As Porsche Cayenne is putting its final touches on the second generation Porsche Cayenne, we expect it to make its world debut during a major auto event in the first half of this year.

The 2011 Porsche Cayenne will have better handling, better performance figures, better fuel economy and lower carbon dioxide emissions thanks to the fact that the Porsche engineers have done everything they could to reduce the weight of the German SUV in comparison to the current generation by about 440 lbs or 200 kilograms. A modified version of the Porsche Panamera platform that will also be used for the second generation Volkswagen Touareg is going to be used for the 2011 Porsche Cayenne.

Thus, it is no surprise that the dashboard of the next generation Porsche Cayenne is quite similar to the one found on the Porsche Panamera sports sedan, featuring suspensions controls and numerous other buttons flanking the gear lever on the elevated lower console, a five gauge cluster and a center stack dominated by a large screen with the climate controls positioned underneath.

For the environmental concerned buyers, the second generation Porsche Cayenne will be offered with a choice of either a V6 diesel engine or a V6 gasoline electric hybrid drivetrain. For the driving enthusiasts who want to have some fun at the wheel, the German automaker will be offering a top of the range 4.8 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine capable of developing 400 horsepower and a 4.8 liter turbocharged V8 engine capable of developing 500 horsepower. The entry level version will come with a Volkswagen V6 petrol engine capable of developing 300 horsepower.
