In times of economic recession, people still need to go from point A to point B. The difference between times of economic prosperity and times of economic recession is that in the first case people are more tempted to cars that are expensive, that they could not afford in other circumstances while in the second case, people are more willing to settle for a cheap car, that just does its job and nothing more. Thus, it is not a big surprise that in modern western European countries like Germany or France, cars like the Dacia Logan sedan are selling like crazy. For those of you who do not know, Dacia is a Romanian automaker owned by Renault.
Obviously, seeing the success of cars like the Dacia Logan , all of other automakers want a piece of the market, so they started developing as cheap as possible cars. Thus, even the prestigious Japanese automaker Toyota has plans for the low cost market.
With a few days before the New Delhi Moto Show, Toyota released a video teaser of a new small sedan that seems to be ready for production. Rumors from India claim that the production version of the low cost sedan will be named Toyota Etios and will be offered with small capacity gasoline and diesel engine. The Toyota Etios is expected to hit the market towards the end of this year.
At the beginning, the Toyota Etios will only be sold on the Indian market but other international markets, like the countries of South America and Russia are expected to see the low cost sedan soon afterwards.
