The Chevrolet Aveo is not a very popular car. Actually, a lot of people make ironical statements regarding the small hatchback. Well, as the next generation Chevrolet Aveo is almost ready, looks like the North American automaker wants to change the unfavorable general opinion about the Aveo to a better one. They intend to do this by launching a sporty version of the Aveo. Actually, General Motors (the owners of Chevrolet) released a photo gallery and technical specifications of the Chevrolet Aveo RS concept, that will make its world debut during the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in a couple of days. General Motors hopes that the next generation Chevrolet Aveo will be able to compete against cars like the Toyota Yaris or the Ford Fiesta.
The Chevrolet Aveo RS seems to have been inspired from other Chevy models like the Chevrolet Spark or Chevrolet Cruze as some common elements like the fender flares, the dual element grille or the round tail lamp suggest. Other particular features of the Chevrolet Aveo RS include chrome exhaust tips, 19 inch five spoke alloy wheels, a rear diffuser with a center mounted exhaust, large Boracay Blue brake calipers, motorcycle inspired rear tail lamps with tinted aluminum housings, a roof spoiler as well as a specific front bumper with large air vents.
The interior of the Chevrolet Aveo RS features a pair of sport front seats, leather with contrasting blue stitching as well as decorative trim. Actually, the interior of the car looks quite production ready if you ask me.
The power of the Chevrolet Aveo RS will come from a 1.4 liter turbocharged inline four cylinder Ecotec engine that has an output of 138 horsepower and that will also be available on the new Chevrolet Cruze. The powertrain is completed by a six speed manual gearbox and a front wheel drive system.
It is quite possible to see a production version of the Chevrolet Aveo RS in the range of the next generation Chevrolet Aveo. Still, you have to remember that this is the RS version and that the next generation Chevrolet Aveo will not look so sporty at all, even if it might turn out to look nice.
