In the last coupe of days all eyes have been looking at what is going on at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. BMW decided to unveil the 2011 BMW 135i Coupe and Convertible, but not at the most important auto event of the moment.
The main objective of BMW at the moment is to replace the N54 3.0 liter twin turbocharged inline six cylinder engine with the new twin scroll turbocharged 3.0 liter inline six cylinder engine, named N55. Thus, the 2011 BMW 135i Coupe and Convertible will get their power from the new twin scroll turbocharged 3.0 liter inline six cylinder engine named N55. The N55 has an output of 300 horsepower at 5800 revs per minute and 400 Nm of torque available from 1200 revs per minute up to 5000 revs per minute. Thus, the new N55 has the same output of power as the former N54 twin turbocharged engine. So, where is the difference? you will ask. Well, the difference is that the new engine reaches peak torque 100 revs per minute earlier than with the previous one and the engine boost response is improved across the entire engine speed range. It also has better throttle response and is more fuel efficient thanks to the adoption of the single twin scroll turbocharger and the integration of VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology.
The 2011 BMW 135i Coupe and Convertible will get a new alignment and optics for the climate control instrument, a new Harman Kardon Surround Sound System which replaces the previous HiFi Professional System as well as BMW`s seven speed DCT (Double Clutch Transmission) that now features dedicated steering wheel paddles for up shifting (on the right) and down shifting (on the left).
The 2011 BMW 135i Coupe and Convertible will hit the market in the spring of this year.
