3rd of February 2010 After a long period of waiting, Kia decided to finally unveil the first official photos of their next generation compact crossover, the Kia Sportage. The next generation Kia Sporctage was designed under the guidance of Peter Schreyer, a former designer of Audi.
The next generation Kia Sportage is a huge step forward in comparison to the current model. Practically, the South Korean automaker has taken a huge leap forward with their new generation models and the Kia Sportage is no exception. The next generation Kia Sportage seems to be intended especially for the European market, as extra attention given to details is quite easy to see but still keeps the new Kia design language, having common design patterns and cues with the new Kia Sorento SUV, the Kia Soul or the Kia Cadenza sedan.
The 2011 Kia Sportage will offer improved cabin space in comparison to the current model, as it will be longer and wider. The next generation Kia Sportage will be built on the same platform as the new generation Hyundai Tucson or Hyundai ix35 as it is known in Europe.
Unfortunately, Kia did not reveal the engine range but it is quite possible that in Europe the 2011 Kia Sportage to have some common engines with the Hyundai ix35, like the 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter gasoline engines and the 1.7 liter and 2.0 liter diesel engines while in North America it will most likely share some engines with the new Hyundai Tucson , like the 2.0 liter and 2.4 liter four cylinders engines.
The 2011 Kia Sportage will make its world debut next month at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
