It is obvious that all automakers anxiously wait for any event, no matter how important it is, to have a reason for releasing another limited edition model. Still, you would expect that they would do things right, put a little passion in their work.
The Intercontinental Rally Challenge is a newly formed rally series that debuted in 2006. Peugeot has been always interested in rally competitions, being manufacturers champions for three times in the WRC (World Rally Championship) between 2000 and 2002 inclusively and winning the drivers championship in the WRC twice, in 2000 and 2002 (both times Marcus Gronholm) with a WRC prepared Peugeot 206. In the last couple of years Peugeot could not keep up with the competition in the WRC so they redirected their attention to the newly created Intercontinental Rally Challenge which they won in 2007, 2008 and 2009 with a rally version of the Peugeot 207.
In order to celebrate the winning of the 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge both in the manufacturers championship and the drivers championship (by Kris Meeke from Great Britain), the French automaker decided to launch a special edition Peugeot 207 S16 that will be destined for the UK market exclusively. The special edition Peugeot 207 S16 will be built in only 250 units. Being a special edition model launched to celebrate a great rally performance, you would expect it to get a significantly more powerful engine, right? Well, the answer is no.
The special edition Peugeot 207 S16 is just a regular Peugeot 207 Sport 1.6 VTi with a bunch of exterior modifications. The special edition Peugeot 207 S16 will get its power from a 1.6 liter four cylinders engine that has an output of 120 horsepower, the exact same engine available on the Peugeot 207 Sport. Thanks to this engine, the special edition three door hatchback will be able to reach a maximum speed of 201 km/h while being able to go from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 10.7 seconds. If anyone is interested in the fuel consumption of a special edition model dedicated to a rally performance, then you must know that the Peugeot 207 S16 returns a combined fuel economy of 47.1 mpg UK or a fuel consumption of 6.0 liters per 100 kilometers or a fuel economy of 39.2 mpg US.
The Peugeot 207 S16 features a standard Bianca white finish with a full Peugeot 207 RC Cup body kit which consists of special interior badge signed by Kris Meeke, front and rear spoilers, sports mesh front grille, side skirts, dark tinted rear windows, a pseudo rear diffuser as well as 17 inch Hockenheim alloy wheels. Potential buyers can choose optionally vinyl rally graphic that mimic those found on Kris Meeke`s IRC winning Peugeot 207 S2000 rally car free of charge.
The price of the Peugeot 207 S16 will be of 14.695 British pounds for which you will get extra equipment worth of 1200 British pounds in comparison to a similarly equipped Peugeot 207 Sport.
