After a long period when it practically disappeared from any kind of motorsport, Jaguar has officially announced that they will be returning to the famous Le Mans 24 hour race. The British automaker will return with the Jaguar XKR GT2 run by JaguarRSR, an independent racing team from the United States of America. Jaguar only needs one more race to celebrate 75 Le Mans 24 Hour races.
Gentilozzi, the driver of the JaguarRSR XKR GT2 in the 2010 American Le Mans Series, has stated ``We are delighted the ACO has granted us entry in the prestigious 24 hours of Le Mans. It is a race that is held dearly in the hearts of motorsport fans across the world and for Jaguar to be racing again is something special``.
Jaguar has a huge history at Le Mans, winning the race seven times in total (1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1988 and 1990).
It is great to hear that some automakers are coming back to motorsports in these harsh times, when practically every automaker did everything they could to back out of any money wasting competition. Congratulations and good luck to Jaguar , as they will need it. It will be extremely hard for them to be competitive again after such a long time of absence. Still, we must have in mind that Jaguar has previously won the Le Mans 24 hour race seven times, in opposition to the horrible results Jaguar had in Formula 1. If you forgot, in the four years of competing in the Formula 1 (2000-2004), Jaguar managed a total of only two podiums.
