The 2010 Chicago Motor Show was the perfect occasion for Hyundai to launch a slightly restyled version of their Hyundai Azera sedan or Hyundai Grandeur as it is known in South Korea. The South Korean version of the Hyundai Azera, in its facelifted form, was presented back in December last year.
Actually, the midlife facelift is more likely an engine lift as the real changes have been done to the engine range. Thus, the styling modifications are limited to a new brushed metal grain finish applied to the center console cover, the ashtray cover, the cup holder cover and the gear shift indicator for the interior of the car while the exterior styling modifications include new designs for the alloy wheels, revised exterior mirrors, a restyled bumper with integrated chrome tailpipes and a matching deck lid as well as redesigned LED taillights.
The engine range has been modified, and now consists of a 3.8 liter V6 engine (which replaces the old 3.8 liter V6 engine that had an output of 263 horsepower and returned 26 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city) manages to develop 272 horsepower at 6000 revs per minute and 354 Nm of torque, managing to return figures of 28 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in the city. As you can see, the new engine has a higher output and a better fuel economy. The 3.3 liter V6 engine has been improved to, from 234 horsepower and 306 Nm of torque and a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway to the current performances of 250 horsepower at 6200 revs per minute and 315 Nm of torque at 4500 revs per minute, having a fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Previous versions of both V6 engines had CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) only on the intake camshaft, while the versions have DCVVT (Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing) that improves engine breathing on the intake and exhaust camshafts for better fuel economy and lower emissions. Also, both engines are mated to a new six speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control.
