We are getting closer to the debut of the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. More precisely, we have to wait exactly another two weeks, as the grand opening will take place on March 2. Until then, all automakers are preparing the final details for the cars they will be displaying at maybe the most important auto event of the year.
After announcing that they will be bringing the 2010 Toyota RAV4 facelift at Geneva, now they announced a new model that will be on display next month. More precisely, the Japanese automaker will be presenting the Toyota Auris HSD full hybrid. At the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show they showed a concept model so things have evolved quite quickly, as they announced that the Toyota Auris HSD that will be coming to the 2010 Geneva Motor Show will be the production ready model.
The drivetrain details of the Toyota Auris HSD have yet to be disclosed, but it seems that the full hybrid hatchback will get the same gasoline electric hybrid powertrain as the third generation Toyota Prius. To be clearer, the third generation Toyota Prius can move thanks to a total combined power of 134 horsepower, coming from a 1.8 liter Atkinson cycle four cylinders engine with an output of 98 horsepower that is mated to an electric motor. The Toyota Auris HSD will be able to run on battery power alone in zero emissions mode, just like the Toyota Prius. The overall styling of the production ready Toyota Auris HSD will not be as attention-grabbing as the concept version, as it will feature new bumper with flat corners and a different grille than the regular Toyota Auris.
Thus, the Toyota Auris HSD is practically a full hybrid version of the facelifted Toyota Auris, which will also be on display next month. The Toyota Auris HSD will be the first hybrid model of the Japanese automaker to be built in Europe, at the Burnaston factory in the UK. The actual sales of the Toyota Auris HSD will begin in July this month in Europe.
