18th of February 2010 With less than two weeks before the official start of the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Bentley decided to officially launch a new model, offering practically all the important details and a large number of photos. Still, the world debut will take place in Geneva next month.
I am talking about the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible. Practically, this is the drop top version of the Bentley Continental Supersports Coupe that was launched last year. The Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible is said to be the fastest four seat convertible in the world as well as the most powerful drop top in the history of the British automaker.
The Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible manages to reach a maximum speed of 325 km/h or 202 mph while going from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, from 0 to 96 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 3.9 seconds and from 0 to 160 km/h (0 to 100 mph) in 9.5 seconds. All this is possible thanks to a twin turbocharged W12 engine that is also used on the Bentley Continental Supersports Coupe and that manages to develop 630 horsepower at 6000 revs per minute and 800 Nm of torque between 2000 revs per minute and 4500 revs per minute, being capable to run on both E85 bioethanol, gasoline or a mix between them. The powertrain also consists of a strengthened ZF 6HP26 gearbox with a Quickshift system that is said to reduce shift times by 50% while also enabling double downshifts. The drivetrain is completed by an all wheel drive system.
The interior of the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible gets some improvements in comparison to the couple model, including the keeping of the rear seats, special materials and trim options as well as carbon fiber front sports seats. Other important features include 20 inch lightweight alloy wheels with 275/35 ZR20 Pirelli Ultra High Performance tires, slightly blistered rear wheel arches to accommodate wider tracks, carbon ceramic brakes, a 40/60 rear biased torque split for the all wheel drive system as well as revised ESP, steering and suspension settings.
The actual sale process of the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible will begin in the autumn of this year. Until then, check out the gallery below.
