New Volkswagen Polo GTI launched

Looks like the Volkswagen Polo was a good boy in the last couple of years, not causing any major problems, so the German automaker decided to reward it with a sportier version which will make its debut soon. More precisely, the Volkswagen Polo GTI will make its world debut in about a week at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

Styling features include a slightly revised instrument panel with red dials, tartan cloth sport seats as well as a similar flat bottom steering wheel with red stitching for the interior and a pair of chrome tipped exhausts housed on a new rear bumper, the typical GTI honeycomb grille with a red frame, blacked out headlamps with LED daytime running lights as well as five spoke polished 17 inch alloy wheels with low profile tires at the exterior.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI gets Volkswagen`s version of the Seat Ibiza`s XDS self locking electronic differential as well as upgraded suspension components. But the real major feature is the engine. More precisely, the Volkswagen Polo GTI gets its power from a 1.4 liter TSI petrol engine with turbo and supercharging that has an output of 180 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque available from 2000 to 4500 revs per minute. The engine is the same one found on the Seat Ibiza Cupra.

The drivetrain of the Volkswagen Polo GTI also consists of a front wheel drive system and a compact seven speed twin clutch DSG transmission. Thanks to the powerful 1.4 liter TSI engine with an output of 180 horsepower, the Volkswagen Polo GTI manages to reach a maximum speed of 228 km/h while going from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Have in mind that the Volkswagen Polo GTI will have a weight of 1184 kilograms. If you are environmental friendly, then know that the level of carbon dioxide emissions is of just 139 grams per kilometer while the fuel consumption will be of just 6.0 liters per 100 kilometers.

The new Volkswagen Polo GTI will hit the European market shortly after the world debut that takes place next month, in both three and five doors versions.
