23rd of February 2010 In the last couple of years almost all that you hear regarding the car industry is about being eco, environmental friendly, saving the planet, hybrid powertrains and so on. I always said that this kind of attitude is just plain stupid. The best example is the recently unveiled Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Seriously, the biggest problem of the environment is a car that is sold in maybe fewer than 500 units yearly?
Finally, I can say something positive about a hybrid car. More precisely, Honda has launched two excellent alternatives for all the taxi companies. More precisely, what we have here are the Honda Insight hybrid taxi and the Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid taxi. The Japanese automaker hopes to convince at least a part of the taxi companies in Europe that environmental friendly taxis are the way to go.
Both the Honda Insight and the Honda Civic sedan hybrid taxis get taxi specific equipment, including heavy duty floor mats, a mounting for taxi meters on the dashboard and pre installed roof brackets.
The Honda Insight hybrid taxi will have a base price of 15.990 Euros (the equivalent of 22.000 U.S. dollars) while the Honda Civic sedan hybrid taxi will have a base price of 17.990 Euros (the equivalent of 24.700 U.S. dollars) in Germany. A warranty extension of 3 years or 300.000 kilometers, whichever comes first, is offered upon request by the Japanese automaker.
The Honda Civic sedan hybrid has a fuel consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers (48 mpg U.S.) while the Honda Insight has an average fuel consumption of 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers (53.5 mpg U.S.).
