After launching the new generation Ford Focus, it was clear that the North American automaker had big plans for the new model. It was quite obvious that the new Ford Focus was not only going to be offered in the five doors hatchback and four doors sedan versions, as shortly the North American automaker was going to launch a station wagon, a three doors hatchback and a coupe convertible version amongst others. Well, the first of the rumors came true, as Ford launched the station wagon version of the new Ford Focus. Currently, the family of Ford Focus models includes the Ford Grand C-Max, the Ford C-MAX, the Ford Focus four doors sedan and the Ford Focus five doors hatchback.
The new Ford Focus SW (Station Wagon) will get a number of new diesel units and naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. Thus, the engine range will include two diesel engines of different outputs (a 1.6 liter diesel engine that has outputs of 95 horsepower and 115 horsepower as well as a 2.0 liter diesel engine with outputs of 115 horsepower, 140 horsepower and 163 horsepower), a turbocharged EcoBoost unit with direct injection that will have outputs of 150 horsepower and 180 horsepower as well as a naturally aspirated unit of 1.6 liters with outputs of 105 horsepower and 125 horsepower.
No other details were offered regarding the Ford Focus station wagon, but the American automaker did confirm that the Ford Focus new global C-segment platform will be the base for at least ten vehicles around the world. Thus, in addition to the current five models I told you above, we expect to see a sporty two door coupe model, a replacement for the current Ford Kuga SUV, a convertible with a retractable hardtop as well as a three door hatchback version.
It is important to mention that the Ford Focus station wagon will be available only on the European market for the time being. Still, John Fleming, CEO of Ford Europe, has stated ``Ford may sell the station wagon model in other markets around the world, proved the business case and customer demand exist``. The Ford Focus SW is a very important model for the European market, as about 33% of all Ford Focus buyers choose this body style. In some markets like Germany or Italy the wagon versions of the Ford Focus represent more than half of all the sales of the model.
The world debut of the Ford Focus Station Wagon will take place this week at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
