Everyone was impressed last year at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show when the Mercedes SLS AMG made its world debut. The new supercar from the German automaker is meant to replace the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren while being a spiritual successor to the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing. The actual sales of the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG are expected to start in the summer of 2010 in Europe and in the summer of 2011 in the United States. Prices will be of less than 200.000 U.S. dollars for the North American market and 177.310 Euros for the European market.
It is well known that the German automaker intends to launch a roadster version of the new supercar. Actually, the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Roadster has already been spotted in a number of spy photos. Still, what we got to see back then were a number of photos of a camouflaged prototype, so not exactly something to clear up the mystery behind the new model. What we have here is a number of patent design images in which we can see almost every detail of the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Roadster.
From what we can see in the images below, the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Roadster will get conventionally opening doors, but there is a small possibility that it will get scissor type doors like the ones found on the previous Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren. Another feature will be the retractable soft top.
In terms of pricing, the Roadster version of the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG will cost a little more than the normal version, although we have no official word about this. The extra weight from the body strengthening might make the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Roadster a little slower than its brother. The powertrain will most likely consist of a seven speed dual clutch transmission, a rear wheel drive system and the same 6.3 liter V8 engine that has an output of 571 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.
