After showing off its plans for the new Corvette models, General Motors ``leaked`` even more information regarding the future models. To be clearer, we are talking about the closer coming Corvette C7 and the more distant Corvette C8.
The Chevrolet Corvette C7 will be a current generation Corvette C6 with a different body. Chevrolet will insist upon making the Corvette C7 appealing to a broader international crowd as well as to younger buyers in the United States. Another goal for the Corvette C7 is the overall interior quality that is said to be heavily improved in comparison to the current generation Corvette C6. An unnamed senior GM insider said ``The C7 will be the last of the traditional, old style Corvettes``.
The more distant Corvette C8 will get a lightweight alloy body and a more compact design. The Corvette C8 will get a radical design along with a middle mounted V6 engine. It seems that the American automaker decided to quit the traditional large displacement front mounted V8 engine in favor of a turbocharged V6 engine.
The Corvette C7 is expected to hit the market in 2012 while the Corvette C8 will be launched sometime after 2016.
It will be interesting to see how things work out for General Motors and the famous Corvette brand. It is clear that the economic recession has hit them severely as otherwise we would have been taking right now about how good or bad the Corvette C7 is. Still, I do not know how wise it is to make plans for what is going to happen six or seven years later. No one knows the future. What will they do if another financial crisis comes after we get out of this one?
