Lowest emissions record from Lotus's Elise

The new 2011 Lotus Elise has been certified with an emissions figure of 149g of CO2/km - a reduction of 16% over the previous Lotus Elise S, Lotus claiming that "the Elise has the lowest CO2 for its performance level for any gasoline sports car in the world."

Lotus is getting combative with the new Elise, pointing out that it weighs just 876kg while the Porsche Boxster sends the scales spinning to 1334kg. This shows Elise's weight benefit: hiting 60mph in 6.0sec.

The aerodynamics are 4% smoother, according to Lotus, while the 1.6 litre 4 cylinder VVT-I engine is 200cc smaller than the engine in the previous Lotus Elise S, yet produces the same power.

Lotus claims that the fuel consumption turns in an impressive figure of 56.1mpg (extra urban), meaning that Lotus Elise can theoretically travel 500 miles on one tank of fuel.
