Renault has just revealed the final production designs for its first two electric vehicles, the Fluence Z.E. sedan and the Kangoo Express Z.E. van.
The production Fluence gets battery charger connectors on both front fenders while the Kangoo gets a single port on the front of the vehicle. Both vehicles have a nominal range of about 100 miles.
The 250kg lithium-ion battery can be charged in one of three ways: through a household supply, charging the battery in 6-8 hours; at fast charge stations using a 32A 400V supply in approximately 30 minutes (available from 2012), and via a QuickDrop battery switch system.
Standing at 4.75m (13cm longer than the standard version to accommodate the battery behind the rear seats), the Fluence Z.E. will become the C-segment’s first production saloon EV.
The Fluence is powered by an electric motor producing 70kW / 94HP and 226Nm / 167.7 lb-ft of torque that motivates the front wheels through a direct drive transmission.
Cosmetic changes over the standard model include a blue-hued tint on the headlamps, tail lamps, foglamps, logos and boot trim, gloss black exterior mirror housings, body-colour painted side protective mouldings and the battery charge flaps on both wing.
Powered by a 44kW electric motor, the Kangoo revs to 10,500rpm and delivers a constant 226Nm of torque. It was designed for urban businesses, packing the same carrying capacity and payload as the internal combustion version but offering the practicality of lower running costs, no gear changes, silent ride and immediate delivery of torque from start up.
Both of these battery-powered vehicles will go on sale in Israel and Europe during 2011.
