Citroen Metropolis revealed

Citroen has revealed the first photos of its Metropolis concept, a big luxury saloon that will be officially unveiled at the Shanghai Expo next month.

The Metropolis Concept, is bigger that the long-wheelbase S-Class or the new 2010 Audi A8 L W12 which was recently unveiled and has the same width as the Maybach 62 (2 metres) and could open up an entirely new market for the French manufacturer.

The Metropolis Concept was developed entirely by PSA Groupís Shanghai design studio. It uses themes from the Hypnos concept, like the wide Citroen double chevron in the grille, the air intakes ahead of the front wheels and very similar door mirrors. The turbine-style wheels are 21 inches large and are shod in 265/35 tires.

Metropolis Concept uses a hybrid drivetrain and combines a 2.0-liter V6 engine, capable to deliver with an electric motor 272bhp and 277lb ft while the electric motor can increase its output from 55bhp to 95bhp when needed.

Citroen claims performance figures that equal those of a 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine with CO2 emissions of just 70 g/km.
