It may sound crazy, but everyone is waiting for an Asian event to open its gates so that they can see, in real life, a new beautiful European concept. How did this happen? Well, Citroen decided to wait until next month for the Shanghai World Fair in China to open its gates so that they can show off their latest model. The Shanghai World Fair will be opened between the 1st of May and the 31st of October. During this time, at the French Pavilion of the Shanghai World Fair, people living in Shanghai (or on vacation there) will be able to see the latest concept from Citroen: the Citroen Metropolis.
It may come as a surprise at first that the French automaker decided to make the world debut of its latest concept in Asia, but in fact it makes sense. The Citroen Metropolis was developed by the design team of Citroen from Shanghai.
Now, we can finally get to see the first real life photos of the Citroen Metropolis and a video. No, the car was not spotted somewhere. The photos below are official ones but at least we get to see the new concept on a street and not in some hidden lab.
The Citroen Metropolis will come with a hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.0 liter V6 engine, a seven speed dual clutch electronic gearbox and an electric motor. It seems kind of funny that the French automaker stated that when both engines are used, the car gets a combined output of 460 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. This is quite awkward (and funny if you will) because the electric motor can develop a continues power of 55 horsepower with a peak of 95 horsepower when needed while the V6 engine is said to have an output of 272 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque. According to Citroen, the new concept can run in ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode but at low speeds only.
If you turn our attention towards the styling of the car, we will be amazed. The bodywork is colored in Pearl Silk, having a length of 5300 millimeters and a width of 2000 millimeters. The surprise comes from the fact that the new concept is quite low, having a height of only 1400 millimeters. This might be a problem for those who are tall. The overall design of the car is stunning, to say the least.
The Citroen Metropolis also gets a Hydractive suspension and a four wheel drive mode.
