Subaru will unveil a new camera-based driving assist system this week at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
Called New EyeSight, the system will use cameras to detect objects in front of the vehicle and sets off an alarm to warn the driver of a potential collision hazard. If no action is taken by the driver, and the object is moving at less than 20 mph, the system will slow down or stop the car automatically to prevent a collision. If the speed difference between the two moving vehicles is above 20 mph, the system automatically slows the car down to reduce the risk of a collision. If the system detects the driver braking suddenly, it will activate a brake assist function to help avoid a collision.
This safety system has also allowed for the implementation of Adaptive Cruise Control. The cameras will detect the vehicle in front of you and keep a distance from it at the same speed. If it stops, your vehicle will stop as well, and start going again once the vehicle in front does.
Subaru plans to launch New EyeSight in its Legacy range in Japan next month.
