Besides introducing the E-Lavida, Volkswagen outlined their EV strategy for china. In 2013 and 2014, the company will begin producing electric vehicle in China.

The car is an electric version of the Lavida sedan developed by the German carmaker's joint venture with the Chinese Shanghai Automotive company.

The E-Lavida is based on a Golf MKIV platform and will use an electric motor mounted in the location of the traditional internal combustion unit and a battery pack that is located at the rear of the vehicle.

Volkswagen presented its e-Mobility strategy (the carmaker's eco pathway) for the world’s greatest automotive market.

"Our goal is market leadership in e-Mobility (by) 2018. China is the world's most important market for the Volkswagen Group, and the success of e-mobility in China is crucial to the global implementation of (the) e-Mobility strategy," added Dr. Martin Winterkorn, CEO of Volkswagen AG.
