BMW replaces Toyota as most valuable global car brand

According to the latest reports, it appears that BMW overtook Toyota as the world’s most valuable automotive brand. The same BrandZ Top 100 indicates that Ford and Volkswagen improved their brand value.

Peter Walshe, Millward Brown global brand director, said he believes Toyota will bounce back after the automaker's massive recall campaign started to hit its brand value toward the end of 2009.

Bmw brand value declined by 9 percent compared to 2009 to $21.8 billion while Toyota dropped 27 percent to under $21.8 billion. The third-place slot goes to Honda, valued at $14.3 billion, while Mercedes-Benz slid 11 percent to $13.7 billion. Porsche holds the fifth place spot at $12 billion, but its value dropped an astounding 31 percent in 2009.

The big gainers were Volkswagen, which rose 20 percent to just under $7 billion, and Ford – up 19 percent to $7 billion.
