Spyker to enter Chinese market

Spyker Cars has signed a deal with China Automobile Trading Co., one of the country's largest auto importers, to create a joint venture in China as its sole general distributor for its new generation of cars.

Spyker’s CEO, Victor Muller, expressed his optimism regarding the growth of the Chinese auto market. At the signing ceremony, Muller also talked about the Dutch luxury sports car maker finding its place in this market. He added that global carmakers would need to have a clear strategy for the Chinese market if it intends to progress.

If the agreement between Spyker and CATC is approved by the Chinese government, the joint venture will allow Spyker to sale and service in China its supercars, luxury sport utilities and luxury commercial vehicles.

China recently unseated the U.S. as the world's largest auto market when it reported 13.64 million unit sales for 2009.
