Ford to start second shift to meet Figo demand

According to the company managing director Michael Boneham, Ford India will start a second shift at its Maraimalainagar plant near here from June to meet the growing demand for its small car Figo.

Ford has orders for no less than 15,000 Figos. When the car was launched, 10,000 people ordered a Figo only in the first month.

"We are delighted at the initial response to Figo, and are incredibly proud to have struck such a positive chord with Indian consumers," Michael Boneham said.

The Figo is comes with a 1.4l Duratorq common rail diesel engine, which outputs 69 PS at 4,000 rpm, and a 1.2l petrol SEFI engine, developing 71 PS at 6,250 rpm. Both come equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission.

The Ford Figo is being offered in four different models, namely LXI, EXI, ZXI and Titanium, with prices starting at $7,695.
