Lotus to introduce a new 2011 Elise in Australia

The new-look 2011 Lotus Elise has been formally introduced into the Australian market, boasting a number of enhancements and a new engine, more fuel efficient thanks to the valvematic system.

The Australian market version of the 2011 Lotus Elise facelift will also be offered with the choice of the new 1.6-litre engine, mated to a new six-speed close ratio manual gearbox, that develops 100kW, identical to the previous 1.8-litre engine, at 6800 rpm and 160 Nm of torque 4400 rpm, with the rev limiter kicking in at 7000rpm. The car can sprint up to 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 204km/h, largely thanks to its 876kg kerb weight.

Fuel economy for the new engine stands at just 5.04l/100km on the combined cycle, a 16 percent reduction over the 2010 Elise S., meaning the 2011 Lotus Elise is also exempt from the governmentís Luxury Car Tax. This new combination grants the 2011 Lotus Elise the title of the lowest emissions petrol high performance sports car in the world, emitting just 149g/km of CO2.

The car sports three up-shift lights on the binnacle that illuminate cumulatively when approaching the rev limiter; when all three are illuminated, they flash to indicate that the driver is almost on the rev limiter.

The 2011 Lotus Elise facelift will also be offered on the Australian market with the 1.8-litre 141kW engine in the Elise R and the 1.8-litre supercharged unit developing 162kW in the Elise SC.

The first new-look Lotus Elise model will premiere in Australia in supercharged Elise SC form, with the first shipment due in July 2010, shortly followed by the new 1.6-litre Lotus Elise, starting from the same $69,990 recommended retail price.
