NHTSA investigating Ford Windstar breaking axles issue

It turns out that all automakers have technical problems, in spite of what some tried to manipulate you into thinking that only one automaker had problems (Toyota). The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) announced that they are currently investigating at the Ford Windstar models produced between 1999 and 2003.

New York Times says that in that period of time about 900.000 Ford Windstar models were sold. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) says that ``fracture of a rear suspension axle could result in loss of vehicle control``. Until now there have been 234 reports and two accidents involving the Ford Windstar models sold between 1999 and 2003.

Said Deep, spokesperson of Ford, has stated ``the few reports alleging loss of control are inconsistent with how Ford would expect these front-wheel-drive vehicles to respond...The operator retains control of the vehicle at all times``. He continued by saying that ``all the events happened occurred after the warranty was up``.

There you have it. Almost one million Ford Windstar models seem to have technical problems, according to the NHTSA. Should we start and panic just like we did in the Toyota case? Of course not. This time, no one has any interest to drop the Ford sales in the United States.
